Liverpool forward scores hat-trick in emphatic 3-0 friendly win

Oakley Cannonier scored a hat-trick as Liverpool under-18s continued their preparations for the season with a 3-0 friendly win over Chester City.

Cannonier, a 17-year-old forward who signed his first professional contract with the club this summer, opened the scoring in the 60-minute match before netting two penalties.

U18s boss Marc Bridge-Wilkinson included a number of U16 players in the side for Saturday's game at the Academy.

Cannonier netted on 20 minutes after being picked out by Melkamu Frauendorf, and then slotted home from the spot four minutes later after being upended in the box when racing on to a pass from Luca Stephenson.

Two minutes into the second half, Cannonier completed his hat-trick with another penalty after Stephenson was fouled.

The forward later struck the crossbar with a header from a cross by the lively Stephenson with Terence Miles having hit the woodwork in the first half.

Liverpool U18s begin their season on August 14 when they entertain Stoke City in their Premier League U18 North opener.
