Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster sends powerful anti-racism message

Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster has taken to Twitter to call for a level playing field in the ongoing fight against racism.

Football continues to battle against racism in all its forms around the world, while Brewster himself has been a target of vile abuse while playing at youth level for Liverpool and England.

The death of George Floyd while in police custody in Minneapolis has led to calls for much-needed reform over how police and other authorities treat people of ethnic minorities.

The case has evoked memories of similar police killings of black Americans, including Eric Garner in New York and Michael Brown in Ferguson.

These deaths and others have proven to be a driving force for the Black Lives Matter movement, and Brewster supported the cause in a tweet on Sunday.

The 20-year-old forward - who is currently on loan at Swansea City - tweeted an image of him celebrating a goal he scored in a Liverpool friendly last summer, along with Wales international Harry Wilson.

He wrote: "This is way deeper than just pointing out who’s staying quiet and who’s speaking up. Unfortunately for us black/brown people etc, this is a real life & everyday occurrence in so many different ways. For years & generations we’ve been screaming out for change and to be heard, yet the pain continues... ⠀

"We’ve all been shown films like Roots, we’ve all seen films like Boyz in the hood where this reality is covered and showcased. Yet we are still living these movies in real life. In 2020, today.

"This goes beyond just #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd, we need justice for us as Human beings. We don’t want special privilege. A level playing field is all we have been crying for, forever. Hear us. #BlackLivesMatter."
