Liverpool forward Divock Origi to miss ‘one or two weeks’ but ankle injury is ‘not serious’

Liverpool striker Divock Origi has been ruled out for ‘between one and two weeks’ with an ankle injury, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.

The Belgian forward was forced off with the knock midway through the first half of the Reds’ 3-1 win over Newcastle on Saturday.

He has not travelled with the squad to Italy for Tuesday night’s Champions League group stage opener against Napoli.

The 24-year-old will also miss Sunday’s Premier League trip to Chelsea, and will be a doubt for next week’s EFL Cup clash with MK Dons, as well as the league meeting with Sheffield United on September 28.

“The update on Div is that it is not too serious,” Klopp told Liverpool’s club website.

“We expect him [to be out for] between one and two weeks, but it depends a little bit on when he can deal with the pain.

“It is nothing really; it’s a feeling, but it should be fine.”
