Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez sends emotional message to Luis Suarez amid retirement rumours

Liverpool star Darwin Nunez has labelled iconic Uruguay forward Luis Suarez as his idol in an emotional admission.

He followed in the footsteps of El Pistolero when he completed his move from SL Benfica in the summer of 2022. Suarez enjoyed a successful stint at Anfield as he netted 82 goals in 133 appearances before signing for Barcelona. His time in Catalonia was equally fruitful as he fired home 195 times in 283 outings forming a fierce partnership with Lionel Messi and Neymar.

Nunez's debut season on Merseyside was a rollercoaster as he was shown a straight red card in his first showing at Anfield after an altercation with Crystal Palace's Joachim Andersen. The 23-year-old proved a handful for the Reds as he scored 15 goals in his first campaign in the Premier League.

Both Suarez and the former Benfica talisman played alongside each other at Uruguay with the former offering his support when he made his move to Anfield.

In a YouTube video with Shoot for Love, Nunez was tasked with firing through a number of objects. At the end of the video, the two hosts discussed another clip they filmed with the striker who was signed by Kenny Dalglish in 2012.

The current Reds forward noted that he has saw the effort from Suarez, where he curled the ball into a basketball net from distance. Nunez said: "I have "I have seen the Luis Suarez video before... my friend, Luis is an idol for me," pounding his heart as he discusses the iconic striker.

His idol has hit the headlines this week after worrying news emerged. The 36-year-old is currently plying his trade in Brazil with Gremio and has shown that he hasn't lost his qualities firing them to glory in South America.

It has been reported that he is considering retiring from football due to a persistent knee injury at Gremio.

Claims in Brazil have suggested that Suarez is weighing up announcing his official retirement due to the long-standing issue troubling him in Porto Alegre. GZH Esportes has reported that the former Liverpool striker has already communicated his decision to Gremio's hierarchy as he prepares to call time on a decorated career at the age of 36.
