Liverpool flop Mario Balotelli 'set to be sacked' as club chief orders contract to be terminated

Former Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli is on the verge of being sacked by current club Brescia, according to reports.

The ex-Reds striker only signed for the Serie A club last summer on a free transfer, but reports in Italy claim that his contract will be terminated with immediate effect.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, cited by The Mirror, Brescia chief Massimo Cellino has decided to activate a break clause in Balotelli’s contract.

The report claims that Brescia have the option of terminating Balotelli’s contract should they be relegated from the Italian top flight, which looks likely given they are nine points adrift of safety at the bottom of the table.

It has also been claimed that while the majority of the Brescia players have been back training to prepare for the Serie A restart later this month, Balotelli has failed to turn up to several sessions.

It is this which appears to have irked Cellino and led to the decision of writing to Balotelli requesting for his contract with Brescia to be terminated.

The 29-year-old spent two years contracted to the Reds between 2014 and 2016, and spent a year loan with AC Milan, before departing permanently to join French club Nice on a free transfer.

Since signing for Brescia last summer, Balotelli has made 19 appearances in Serie A, scoring five goals.
