Liverpool fixtures and the truth about their Champions League chances

The 2020/21 Premier League campaign is approaching its final stretch, with every team in the division now having just 10 games remaining or fewer to determine their overall league standing in May.

Once the current international break ends next week, each team will take part in the run-in to decide who finishes where, but some schedules are trickier than others.

To capture which teams have easy or difficult matches to get through at the business end of the season, the average league position of the remaining opponents for each side has been identified in the table below.

Brighton and Hove Albion have the worst set of fixtures when it comes to league standing, with their nine remaining opponents having an average current rank as low as 8.1 in the table, followed by Crystal Palace and West Brom.

Arsenal, by contrast, have the most favourable schedule by some distance, with Mikel Arteta's men facing many struggling sides at the bottom of the division with an average position of 13.4.

Liverpool have the 13th-toughest run level with Manchester United according to the numbers; the average league position of their remaining opponents is 11th which indicates that they are set to face a mixed bag of match scenarios between now and May.

Only West Ham appear to have a considerably more favourite schedule than the Reds of the teams currently chasing a spot in the top four, with Leicester City's fixtures offering plenty of hope for those at Anfield.

Leicester's run is the toughest of the sides positioned near the top; Brendan Rodgers men still have to overcome all of the teams inside the current top six and their last three contests involve trips to Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge before hosting Spurs on the final day.

Liverpool will end their season at home to Palace, who appear unlikely to be playing for anything specific by that stage and it is perhaps also worth noting that Roy Hodgson will be out of contract after that clash unless something changes between now and June.

The prospects of Jurgen Klopp delivering a top four spot are slim but thanks to the schedule, it remains an outside possibility.
