Liverpool first-team trio 'named in summer clear-out' as Jurgen Klopp plans rebuild

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly planning a summer clear-out at Liverpool - and three first-team players could leave.

The players in apparent danger of being axed are Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The trio have fallen down the pecking order at Anfield, with Origi and Shaqiri having their performances criticised on more than one occasion this season.

"They've got nothing up front," announced Graeme Souness after Klopp picked the duo against West Ham. "I'm sorry, Origi and Shaqiri [aren't good enough].

"What you're getting is what I expected from the other two - not a lot."

Oxlade-Chamberlain meanwhile has been blighted with injuries this season and has featured just 12 times in all competitions.

According to the Independent, more players are expected to leave in the clear-out but Origi, Shaqiri and Oxlade-Chamberlain are likely to be the biggest names.

Klopp's Liverpool have been distinctly off-colour this season and are out of the Premier League title race.

They are still alive in the Champions League and learnt on Friday that they will play Real Madrid in the quarter-final of this season's competition.

The winner of the tie will face either Chelsea or Porto in the semis.

"It's exciting, exciting," Klopp said of the Real Madrid draw. "It's obviously a tough draw but I am fine with it because if you look at all the other teams you think, 'Oh my god' because they are all strong and all have quality, that's clear. I am really looking forward to the games.

"It's only just over two years ago that we faced them and it was a tough night for us, so to get the chance to play them again is cool.

"I know it's a different round and whatever and we don't know where we will play and stuff like this, but that's all OK. If it will be Budapest, that’s fine. We are fine with that.

"The home game maybe hopefully at Anfield, that would be great as well. So, no, nothing bad to say – nothing bad to say actually, it's just cool."
