Liverpool finally get glimpse of forgotten summer signing as Jurgen Klopp speaks out

Liverpool fans have finally been given a glimpse of Calvin Ramsay in action as Jurgen Klopp gave a positive update on the right-back's fitness.

Ramsay joined the Reds in the summer transfer window from Aberdeen, but has been ruled out since pre-season through injury. The Scot has been making steady progress back towards match fitness and made a huge step this week.

The 19-year-old was called into Liverpool 's Under-21s squad to face Accrington Stanley in the Papa John's Trophy on Tuesday night. He started the game on the bench, being brought on for the final 28 minutes of the Northern Group D clash at the Wham Stadium.

Ramsay came on to replace Luca Stephenson at right-back, with Stanley already two goals ahead. The hosts would net a third through Ryan Astley eight minutes after Ramsay's introduction.

While he was unable to rescue the Reds' youngsters from crashing out of the competition, Ramsay did put some gloss on his comeback. With the game entering injury time, Ramsay had run into the box to support an attack.

Stanley were able to half-clear a cross but the ball went straight to Ramsay, who fired a curling effort into the near post with his left foot. Liverpool added a second goal through Ben Doak, though ultimately fell to defeat.

Ramsay impressed against the League One side and was a lively presence down the right-hand side during his time on the pitch. Klopp was delighted to see the summer signing in action and revealed he will stay with the Under-21s for their Premier League 2 game against Everton.

“Calvin is completely back in full training. He had a little setback, he had a bit on the ankle so we had to keep him out, but now ready for the under-21s at the weekend, which would be absolutely great,” the German said.

Ramsay himself was also pleased to be back on a pitch for the first time since May. He tweeted a photo of himself in action, with the caption: "Delighted to be back out on the pitch. Also nice to get a goal!"

Liverpool are currently sixth in Premier League 2's Division One and are currently on a seven-game unbeaten run in the competition. The news of Ramsay's return is a boost for Klopp, who has seen his squad suffer a succession of injuries.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold also struggling for form this season Ramsay could add crucial competition at the right-back position. With a brutal run of fixtures leading into the World Cup, Ramsay could be handed some game-time by Klopp if he is able to return to full match fitness.

While Ramsay will be turning out against Everton's Under-21s side, Klopp's senior squad will travel to struggling Nottingham Forest. Klopp's men currently sit eighth in the Premier League after a mixed start to the season.
