Liverpool FC told to target 'realistic' Man City player to replace Sadio Mane

Liverpool winger Sadio Mane continues to be linked with a transfer to Real Madrid this summer, and former Manchester City defender Danny Mills has suggested a more 'realistic' option to replace him.

City winger Raheem Sterling was last week said to be a target for Liverpool in what would be a high-profile return to the club he left in 2015, while Wolves' Adama Traore is another name linked with Anfield.

However, Mills says Traore is not yet of the required quality to replace Mane, and they should look to the Etihad to raid their title rivals instead.

But Mills does not think Sterling should be a target for Jurgen Klopp, but that his teammate Leroy Sane should be instead.

Sane is a long-term target for Bayern Munich and is likely to be the subject of renewed interest from Bavaria again this summer. He has not played this season since injuring his knee in the Community Shield win over Liverpool in August.

Speaking to Football Insider, Mills said: "Traore makes a lot of headlines because of his pace and power but to step into a title-winning side, to replace somebody like Mane or Salah – I do not think he is there yet.

“Somebody like Leroy Sane – possibly. He is coming back from injury and has been linked with a move away recently and could be surplus to requirements. He is young, a great talent and has experience. That would be more realistic but I do not know if Manchester City would sell to rivals.”
