Liverpool FC star Sadio Mane makes Manchester United transfer admission

Sadio Mane admits he was 'thinking about' Manchester United prior to completing a move to Liverpool four years ago.

The Senegalese forward moved to Anfield for a transfer fee of £30m in the summer of 2016 after spending two successful seasons at Southampton.

Following his success on the South Coast, the forward attracted plenty of attention with United also keen to try and bring him to Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old has been a huge hit at Liverpool, but he admits he was thinking about a transfer to United prior to a move to Merseyside.

"We were thinking most about Manchester United," Mane told  The Times.

"That was a tough time for me as I was on the bench so I was not thinking about anyone calling me, but I was pleased he [Jurgen Klopp] did and was not thinking I was a rapper."

Mane's 'rapper' comment is a reference to a recent interview from Jurgen Klopp who suggested the winger looked like a rapper when he first moved to the club.

It is not the first time the Liverpool forward has spoken about transfer interest from United and speaking last year he revealed how close he came to playing for Louis van Gaal.

"I was really, really close because I even met up with them,” Mane told the  The Mirror.

"So I was coming, I was there and I spoke with the boss who was there before [Van Gaal].

"They made an offer, but in the same week, Klopp called me.

"He said: ‘I think it’s the right club. The right coach for you, and I think it’s better that you go to Liverpool’.

"For me I think it was the right time as well. I said, ‘I am going to Liverpool'."
