Liverpool FC star Fabinho's wife Rebeca Tavares speaks out after severe holiday backlash

Fabinho's wife Rebeca Tavares was moved to explain her holiday abroad after receiving a severe backlash.

The Liverpool WAG jetted off with family and friends to the port city of Haifa for a summer break.

Her husband, defensive midfielder Fabinho, was unable to join her as he set off for Liverpool's pre-season tour in America.

Once she'd landed in Haifa, Rebeca posted a selfie alongside an Israeli flag emoji.

Within two hours of posting the picture, Rebeca had received over 600 comments on Twitter .

Some fans were angered about her use of the flag, due to the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The struggle between the Israelis and Palestinians is centered around a dispute over land and borders.

The conflict revolves around the State of Israel, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

Fans were asking the WAG to delete the post, with many commenting '#FreePalestine'.

However, Rebeca released a statement one hour later explaining why she was in Haifa.

She said: "My visit to Israel is not to take sides on one political side or another.

"The ONLY reason to be here is tourism and the story it shares with my religion."
