Liverpool FC star Diogo Jota fires Premier League title warning to Man City as nine point gap opens

Liverpool have no intention of letting Manchester City run away with the Premier League title, forward Diogo Jota has warned.

Jurgen Klopp's side lost at Leicester this week after drawing at Tottenham to slip nine points behind an in-form City side, albeit with a game in hand after their Boxing Day clash with Leeds was postponed. Chelsea are a point ahead of Liverpool, having played a game more, with the two chasing sides facing each other this weekend.

The stuttering form of Liverpool and Chelsea has allowed City to quickly put some daylight between them and second at the top of the table, as they are on an impressive run of ten wins in succession.

However, Jota has told Liverpool fans that his side have not given up on the title and fully intend to be ready to close the gap whenever City allow them the chance.

Speaking to Liverpool's website, Jota said: “Obviously, we have this gap now but it’s still possible. So I think, in the end, it was a good year with all the circumstances. Now I just hope 2022 can be even better.”

"There are still a lot of games. Obviously there is a gap now between us and them. We know there is that gap but we also know we are able to close that gap and that’s the plan.

“But we need to avoid what happened against Leicester because if we keep doing the things we did in that game, it’s going to be hard for us.

“We know that. So it’s up to us to recover from that game, regroup and go again – because we are able to.”

Jota will be needed to step up in January as key forwards Mo Salah and Sadio Mane leave for the Africa Cup of Nations. City will miss Riyad Mahrez for the same reason, with players leaving for the tournament in Cameroon after the New Year's weekend fixtures.
