Liverpool FC receive major injury boost for Premier League title race with Man City

Liverpool have been handed an injury boost in the Premier League title race with Manchester City.

The Reds are currently two points clear at the top of the table but with Man City holding a game in hand the pursuit is set to go to the wire.

While Man City no longer have the Champions League to consider after last night's dramatic defeat to Spurs, Liverpool booked their place in the semi-finals.

They secured a 6-1 aggregate win against Porto with long term absentee Joe Gomez making his first appearance since December as he came on as a second-half substitute.

He sustained a broken leg against Burnley at the back-end of 2018 after establishing himself as a key part of Liverpool's defence alongside Virgil van Dijk.

Gomez returned to action for the Under-23s last week before making his senior return for the quarter-final tie.

Speaking about the defender Jurgen Klopp explained “Absolutely [he looks strong]. Ox and Joe both did really well at Leicester, it was a brilliant game by all of the boys, to be honest, I watched it back. It looked really good.

“It’s clear they still need time to get full match fitness but it’s nice to have them back and now Joe first as an option. He played right full-back, we need him as this option as well.

Uefa react to VAR controversy which saw Man City dumped out of the Champions League

“We all know he played a wonderful season at the centre-half position until his injury, but he can play both and it’s good to have him.”

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also played for the under-23s and is in contention feature in the next few weeks.

Liverpool travel to Cardiff City on Sunday while Man City again take on Spurs at the Etihad Stadium, looking for revenge and three vital points to maintain their title push.
