Liverpool FC put Championship clubs on alert as Harry Wilson is left out of Champions League squad

Harry Wilson appears to have been nudged closer to the exit door at Liverpool after being left out of the club’s Champions League squad for this season.

The 23-year-old was not included on the Reds’ list of players submitted to Uefa on Tuesday, leaving him ineligible for minutes in the group stages.

And, with the Welshman’s prospects of Premier League involvement also slim, the likelihood of departure in the coming days has increased.

The club plan to hold talks with Wilson when he returns from international duty with Wales, who play England, Ireland and Bulgaria in the next six days.

The winger had come close to a permanent move to Burnley prior to deadline day in the top-flight only for Sean Dyche’s side to ultimately baulk at Liverpool’s demands.

A loan or permanent move to an EFL club remains a possibility up until October 16, however, and appears to offer an increasingly attractive escape route.

Wilson starred for both Hull City and Derby County in the second tier before stepping up to the Premier League with Bournemouth last term.

As such, the Wrexham-born flier could present an attractive proposition for a number of promotion-chasing sides.

Liverpool had hoped to move Wilson on permanently this summer but, as with Marko Grujic, could settle for a loan deal in order to ensure the player does not waste a season on the sidelines.
