Liverpool FC pay tribute to former ECHO journalist Dan Kay before Jurgen Klopp press conference

Jurgen Klopp joined members of the press in paying tribute to former Liverpool ECHO journalist Dan Kay ahead of the Liverpool manager's press conference to preview his side's trip to Leicester City on Monday.

A devoted Liverpool fan, Dan passed away suddenly last weekend at the age of 45. Since then, tributes have continued to pour in for Dan, who had worked tirelessly on behalf of families and survivors of the Hillsborough disaster.

With Dan’s funeral taking place on Friday, Liverpool press officer Tony Barrett paid tribute to the lifelong Red before asking for a period of silence honouring his memory.

“Just before we start, bad news to start the week. We lost Dan Kay who was someone who came to our press conferences regularly,” Barrett said. “Also a big Liverpool fan who did a lot of work on Hillsborough campaigning.

“I know he was respected and liked in the room so we thought it would be appropriate if we start with a short period of silence. It’s Dan’s funeral today so if you could remain silent.”

Liverpool Football Club had paid tribute to Dan earlier this week on their official Twitter account following news of his passing.

“Everyone at LFC is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Dan Kay,” they tweeted. “A much respected journalist who was well known to many at the club, tireless Hillsborough campaigner and lifelong Liverpool fan, our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues, @LivEchonews.”
