Liverpool FC midfielder James Milner trolls Manchester United ahead of Premier League fixture

James Milner has trolled Manchester United ahead of Liverpool's trip to Old Trafford this weekend, joking he would willingly throw one of the club's shirts into a fire.

Milner was speaking on BT Sport's What I Wore when he was asked which two personally significant football shirts he would save if he were forced to flee a burning building.

Asked to select a shirt with which he associates a fond memory as well as another shirt purely for stylistic reasons, Milner grabbed a 2009-10 United shirt and laughed: "Well, that one's getting thrown into the fire!"

Milner has ties to a number of United's rival clubs having begun his career at Leeds United and also represented Manchester City and Liverpool.

Speaking last year, Milner revealed how a dislike for United was instilled in him from a young age.

"Growing up a Leeds fan, I was never allowed to wear a red T-shirt, my old man never allowed it. Seriously. 'We can't wear red. We're Leeds'," Milner told The Times in May 2018.

"It was strange when I signed for Liverpool, actually wearing red. My dad made a joke about it, saying, 'That's the first time I've seen you in red'.

"I still follow Leeds and want them to do well and still have that same feeling towards Manchester United."

United welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford on Sunday knowing a defeat will see them fall 18 points behind the Anfield club in the Premier League table after just nine matches.
