Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp picks the 'lucky' goal that gave Man City Premier League title

Manchester City's win at Burnley was the moment Jurgen Klopp accepted the Premier League title would not be heading to Anfield.

Liverpool's draw at Everton in the first week of March gave the defending champions the advantage but an incredibly competitive title race saw the top two slug it out for another two months and it was the challengers that had the easier run-in on paper.

However, Pep Guardiola's side responded to Champions League heartbreak by beating Tottenham Hotspur at home followed by Manchester United away, and knew that victory at Turf Moor would move them to within two wins of the title.

After a lacklustre first half, the Blues came out with a new energy after the break and Sergio Aguero's goal - crossing the line by less than three centimetres - gave them the lead and they did not allow Burnley a shot on target as they saw out the match.

Leicester looked like they could spoil City's party the following week as they held out for 69 minutes before a Vincent Kompany howitzer added another incredible moment to a thrilling competition.

For Klopp, the Burnley game as significant.

“The Burnley game was the moment,” he said . “I hate to look at these games and hope another team has to lose or whatever, but the goal was a bit lucky, it was a goal.

“Kompany scores the goal against Leicester and you sit there and accept it. In that moment it was, for me, done.”
