Liverpool FC injury latest amid Man City title race as Jurgen Klopp confirms Oxlade-Chamberlain blow

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will miss his side's final two matches of 2019.

The England international was forced off after 75 minutes in his side’s 1-0 victory over Flamengo in the Club World Cup final in Qatar.

Oxlade-Chamberlain appeared to land awkwardly on his ankle and Klopp admitted the issue is "not perfect" after the game.

And when asked for an update at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday morning, the German confirmed he expects to be without the former Arsenal man for the rest of the calendar year.

"No news on anyone else, which is good,” Klopp told the assembled press at Melwood.

“With Oxlade, you have three ligaments on the ankle and one is damaged. I don't know exactly [how long].

“It can take a while. No chance for rest of the year that is clear. We have to see how it settles."

Klopp also confirmed that although Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip and Fabinho were "in a really good way" they would not be ready to face Leicester on Boxing Day.

Liverpool currently lead Man City by 11 points in the Premier League table, and have a game in hand on Pep Guardiola’s side.
