Liverpool FC handed double injury boost ahead of Manchester United fixture

Liverpool duo Fabinho and Joel Matip returned to full training on Wednesday ahead of this weekend's game against Manchester United.

Fabinho and Matip have been suffering with ankle and knee injuries respectively of late but could be fit to play a part against United at Anfield on Sunday.

Centre-back Dejan Lovren could also be involved as he recovers from a hamstring problem, though he has not yet returned to full training.

Jurgen Klopp hinted earlier in the week that the trio could be back in time to face United.

"I wait really until they are on the pitch and somebody tells me they are allowed to do the full session," said the German.

"It looks like Joel will be in, it looks like Fabinho will be in maybe a day later, I'm not sure. Dejan, maybe he can be in as well.

"That means a lot and helps massively of course. But we will see how it looks. The week is very important.

"The game on Sunday against United, we all know what people expect from us from that game. It will be a big one as well and we try to be ready for that."

Fabinho has returned to Melwood training a day earlier than expected, giving Klopp a potential dilemma with his selection for the United match. Gini Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and James Milner have all played in midfield for the runaway league leaders.

United are the only side to have taken points off Liverpool in the Premier League this season. They held Klopp's men to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford in October, with Adam Lallana's strike cancelling out a Marcus Rashford opener.
