Liverpool FC great's reaction to Man City win over Spurs shows how important it was

Liverpool hero Michael Owen expects the Premier League title race to go down to the final day but insists that Manchester City 's 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur was like a 'dagger to the heart' for the Reds.

Pep Guardiola's men managed to shrug off a dramatic Champions League exit to Spurs in midweek by edging past the Londoners in a nervy clash at the Etihad Stadium.

Phil Foden's headed goal after five minutes proved to be the only difference between the sides and the result moved City back above Liverpool and into first place.

Whilst Liverpool can respond at Cardiff City this afternoon and jump ahead of the Blues again, City will win the title if they claim victory in all of their last four matches.

Considering that Spurs represented one of the last remaining teams who could realistically halt City's charge to the title, it's safe to say Owen was disappointed for his old team.

"That result today (Saturday) was a bit of a dagger in the heart," Owen told Premier League Tonight.

"Half a dozen games ago you were saying it is impossible for both of them to win all of their games, points can be dropped anywhere - it won’t be easy coming here for Liverpool - but if City beat Manchester United, if you are a Liverpool fan you are gutted. It definitely goes to the final day."
