Liverpool FC great Jamie Carragher names two Man City players in his team of the season

Liverpool great Jamie Carragher has selected his team of the season so far, with two Manchester City players making it into his best XI.

The Premier League campaign is currently suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus outbreak, with no clear timeframe on when football will return.

However, there is widespread determination for the season to be completed whenever it is safe to do so and City will be looking to finish off their campaign in style.

While the Premier League season hasn't quite gone as planned for Pep Guardiola's side, there have been performances that have caught the eye - which Carragher has recognised.

Selecting Kevin De Bruyne in a creative midfield role alongside Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson and Aston Villa star Jack Grealish, Carragher said of the Belgian: "I do not think I was in a position where I could put the other Liverpool midfield players in, certainly when you have got someone like Kevin De Bruyne, who I think is the best midfield player in the world.

"If I was picking a world XI, De Bruyne would be in that position. I think he's as good as anyone, and there's no doubt he has to go in there."

De Bruyne was not the only City man recognised by De Bruyne, as he opted for Sergio Aguero to lead his attacking line.

"I looked at Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Jamie Vardy and Roberto Firmino, but I have gone for Sergio Aguero," Carragher told Sky Sports. "Whenever he plays, Aguero is absolute dynamite.

"At one point, people were talking about Firmino being in this position, but I actually think Firmino has had better seasons. He's had a really good season but I do not think he's done enough to get in the team of the year.

"I went for Aguero, which may be a bit harsh on Vardy. I'm also a big fan of Raul Jimenez of Wolves."

Carragher's team: Henderson; Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Gomez, Robertson; De Bruyne, Henderson, Grealish; Salah, Mane, Aguero
