Liverpool FC get Anfield go ahead from council to host more public events

Liverpool FC has got the green light to host more concerts and public events at Anfield in 2021 after a key permit was extended this morning.

The club went before members of Liverpool Council's planning committee to extend its permit for holding concerts from June 5 to June 30 2021.

It effectively means the club has another year of being able to host up to six events at Anfield outside the football season, with the permit now covering the full six week period after matches at Anfield stop.

Turley's Sam Ryan, who was representing the club this morning, said residents had been consulted on the plans as part of a large scale consultation from LFC.

Ms Ryan said: "This permission is seeking to extend the club's permit to allow six events to take place.

"The major events actually comprise concerts or other non-football events to take place.

"I would just like to confirm that residents have been consulted on these plans through events in the community."

Some neighbours did attend the meeting to oppose Liverpool FC's plans, arguing the extension would further impact the lives of those who live around Anfield.

They said road closures from the concerts and other events, as well as the noise they generated, caused disturbances to residents.

However committee members sided with the club and voted to extend the permit.

A report sent to committee members said: "Permission is being sought to extend the duration of the permission from 5 to 30 June enabling up to 6 concerts or other major events to be held at the stadium in 2021.

"Each day of activity would count as one event; for example if a single artist were to play at the stadium for a number of days that would be classified as multiple events.

"The events would occur following the end of the football season and could take place over a 6/7-week period running from May until 30 June when LFC would need to commence pitch preparation works for the following season."

The Reds originally got permission to hold non-sporting events at Anfield on a temporary basis in 2018 after a rancorous application process that saw part of the club's plans delayed and another part rejected.

After discussions with neighbours who had strongly opposed the original plans, an amended version was passed in September of that year.

Since planning permission was granted almost 18 months ago Anfield has hosted artists such as P!nk, Take That and Bon Jovi.
