Liverpool FC fans send another message to Man City over Guard of Honour fallout

It seems some Liverpool fans are still annoyed over Manchester City's Guard of Honour for their team on Thursday, as they compared Aston Villa's gesture before Sunday's Premier League game to City's.

As Liverpool won the Premier League last week, it is tradition in England for opposition teams to offer the champions a Guard of Honour onto the pitch in recognition of their achievement.

City did just that on Thursday, but it was met by some criticism from Liverpool fans on Twitter, who thought the Blues did not put enough effort into their applause.

Some City players were wearing pre-match tops, while substitutes were seen in their coats before taking their place on the bench.

Before Liverpool's home clash with Aston Villa, their opponents welcomed the leaders onto the pitch with no coats or pre-match attire in sight.

Apparently that was enough to qualify as a 'better' Guard of Honour, with fans taking to Twitter to judge Aston Villa as having done the gesture properly - unlike City.

Liverpool may have won the title, but they are still aiming to beat City's records from 2017/18 of most points won in a Premier League season, and biggest gap between first and second.

Going into Sunday's games, where Liverpool hosted Villa and City took on Southampton, Liverpool were 20 points ahead of City, with a maximum possible total of 104 points.
