Liverpool FC defender Virgil van Dijk uses one word to describe Man City

Manchester City have been described as 'incredible' by Virgil van Dijk ahead of the start of the new Premier League campaign.

City pipped Liverpool to the title by a single point last term and reasserted their superiority over Jurgen Klopp's side with a victory in Sunday's Community Shield meeting at Wembley.

Liverpool did end last season with success in the Champions League but the trophy they truly covet and are yet to win is the Premier League.

After falling just short three months ago, Van Dijk is hoping Liverpool can turn the tables on City when the 2019-20 league campaign gets underway.

"They are incredible," Van Dijk told ESPN. "And so are we. To get so close in the league was remarkable - 97 points and just one defeat - so it was disappointing not to win it, but I put that feeling away.

"I could respect that City were one point better last season. It's driven me on to work even more, to push the limits and help do everything we can to win.

"We know it will be difficult, because they will improve and so will the other teams, but we are not afraid of challenges."
