Liverpool FC chairman Tom Werner makes Man City admission ahead of Champions League final

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has opened up on the Premier League title race ahead of the Reds' Champions League final clash with Tottenham Hotspur and sent a classy message to Manchester City .

Jurgen Klopp's side are one win away from lifting the European trophy for the sixth time and can claim the illustrious prize that City crave by beating Spurs in Madrid on Saturday evening.

But the Blues have enjoyed an amazing season after landing the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and the Premier League.

City edged out a brilliant Liverpool side by one point, with the Reds accumulating the most points (97) in Premier League history by a team finishing second.

But Liverpool chief Werner insists that City deserved to win the title after their incredible end to the season which included a run of 14 league wins in succession.

“If I'd said to you at the beginning of the season 'We're only going to lose one match this whole year', you would have thought I was crazy," Werner told the Liverpool Echo . “Even though we didn't win the title, we still have this huge match to look forward to on June 1.

“We could only do what we could do. We were in a very competitive title race. By the way I want to compliment Manchester City because they were just a tick better than we were. They deserved to win.”
