Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp provides Mo Salah injury update after Newcastle victory

Jurgen Klopp says Mo Salah was well enough to watch the remainder of Liverpool's 3-2 victory over Newcastle from the dressing after being taken off on a stretcher with a head injury at St. James' Park.

The Egypt international scored Liverpool's second in the first half before being forced off in the wake of a collision with Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on 73 minutes.

It put Salah's involvement in Liverpool's Champions League semi-final second leg against Barcelona in doubt, as well as their final Premier League outing at home against Wolves next Sunday.

Klopp's side leapfrogged Manchester City to go two points clear at the top of the table ahead of City's game against Leicester on Monday, and the Liverpool manager said Salah will undergo further tests to determine his availability between now and the end of the campaign.

"[Mo] watched the [rest of the] game inside, he was OK," he said. "He got a proper knock on the head. We need to do further assessments.

"The doctor had to make a decision – on the pitch or off the pitch – and the decision was off the pitch and we accept that of course."

Divock Origi's 86th-minute header secured three points for Liverpool against a Newcastle side that had won six of their previous seven league games, and Klopp felt his side's victory was deserved.

"The way Newcastle played, it was just difficult to deal with in general," he explained.
