Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp makes Premier League prediction after Pep Guardiola signs new Man City contract

Jurgen Klopp does not believe that Liverpool and Manchester City will continue to dominate the Premier League despite Pep Guardiola extending his stay at the club.

Guardiola's contract was set to expire this summer but it was announced in the week that he had signed a new two-year deal which will see him remain at the Etihad until at least 2023.

The Blues and Liverpool have emerged as the two best teams in the country over the last few years and have been intensely battling for supremacy, both in domestic competition and in the Champions League.

However, Klopp, who admits he is pleased to see that his rival will be staying in England, believes that other teams will soon start offering stiffer competition in the title race and that the current duopoly won't last forever.

Pep Guardiola gives assessment on the defeat to Tottenham

"I'm happy about Pep signing a new contract," he said in his pre-match press conference. "But I'm a little bit afraid it won't be Guardiola against Klopp over the next few years as it looks like Frank (Lampard) and Chelsea are building a proper team there.

"Man United will not stay without trying and Arsenal will do the same and are in a good way as well.

"Tottenham look really dangerous this year. Leicester are obviously and 100 per cent Wolves will not sleep.

"I'll have forgotten somebody, not because I'm being disrespectful but because I've seen the development of a lot of other teams and see the steps they make.

"I'm happy Pep is staying with me for longer!"

City, as if proving Klopp right, discovered just how dangerous Spurs can be on Saturday as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat in North London, through goals from Son Heung-min and Giovani Lo Celso.
