Liverpool will be waiting for Manchester City to slip up in the title race after handing the Blues full control with their draw at Chelsea.
Going into the match one point behind Chelsea, and 12 adrift of City, Liverpool knew only a win would be good enough to keep the pressure on the leaders. However, with Chelsea knowing the same applied of them, the resulting 2-2 draw didn't really benefit either of them.
In fact, Virgil van Dijk commented after the game that the draw means it's City's title to lose, and captain Jordan Henderson echoed his thoughts when speaking to BBC Sport.
"It is a probably a good result for them [City] but for us there will be disappointment we didn't play as well as we liked," he said, while Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta also admitted that City would be happy with ending the weekend 10 points clear at the top of the table.
"They are the ones at the top with more points. The more points we are behind the happier they will be," Azpilicueta said.
"They have been setting the standards really high. It was up to us to close the gap, we know they are a quality team, they have been playing together for a while.
"We are on our way but until now we didn't reach that level of consistency that would keep us at the top."
However, Liverpool assistant manager Pep Ljinders was in no mood to concede the title or heap any praise on City, instead challenging his players to treat every game as a final and be ready for when City get into difficult runs of form later in the season.
“We never look at others. The title race is only decided on the last match and there are still so many points to collect," Ljinders said after deputising for Jurgen Klopp, who was isolating with suspected Covid.
“We have this difficult situation, you never know as the opposition could get difficult situations. But we have to focus on ourselves, that’s how we always did it and that’s why we got into the position where we are."
“That’s how our team developed and how they are at this moment in time because we only focus on the next game, to make it a final and give everything we have and with this we become better.
“With this we became champions and won the Champions League and won the other two cups as well. That’s what we have to keep doing.
“A big compliment to our team because if we keep this fighting spirit up and play a little bit better than we have a big chance in the next games.”
