Liverpool FC and Celtic legend John Barnes 'lined up' to take over as Bangor City manager

Liverpool legend John Barnes has emerged as a surprise contender for the vacant Bangor City manager's job.

Barnes, who spent a decade with the Anfield club, has something of a mixed track record as a manager.

Short and unsuccessful spells with Celtic and Tranmere Rovers book-ended a solid stint with the Jamaican national team - but the 79-cap England international has been away from the dugout for a decade.

However, according to the North Wales Chronicle , Barnes is being lined up to replace Stephen Vaughan Jr at the JD Cymru North side after the controversial ex-chairman departed the role after their 7-0 defeat to Prestatyn Town.

New chairman Dominico Serafino is set to invest heavily in all areas of the club and getting Barnes in would be a significant coup.

In his playing career, Barnes spent the majority of his time with Liverpool - making 407 appearances in his 10 years at the club, winning seven major trophies.

Nothing has yet been confirmed by club officials relating to the possible appointment.
