Liverpool FC ace Virgil van Dijk names Man City star as hardest player he's ever marked

Virgil van Dijk has named Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero as the toughest player he's ever had to mark.

The Liverpool defender answered questions from fans on his official Twitter page during the break from Premier League action and was asked who his toughest opponent was.

Van Dijk picked out Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi as the toughest opponent he has ever faced after the Argentine ran riot at the Nou Camp in last season's Champions League tie before Liverpool overturned the aggregate score at Anfield.

When asked who the toughest player he's ever marked, the Dutch international picked out Aguero.

The Argentine has famously never scored at Anfield but has a knack of netting against Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.

Aguero bagged in the 2-1 win against the Merseyside club at home last season - a game that would be crucial in the Blues securing the Premier League title on the final day of the season.

Back in November, van Dijk hailed the 31-year-old as one of the best strikers in the division and believes Aguero will pay no attention to his poor record at Liverpool's ground.

He said: "It's a tough challenge like any other striker we face.

"I think he’s one of the best strikers in the league and has been doing it for many many years and we have to be at our best to keep him quiet. It will be a good challenge.

"I don’t think he'll be concerned about his record here. I think he has enough experience that he does not worry about those kind of statistics from outside.”
