Liverpool favourites in battle with Man City that could determine Premier League title

Liverpool's win over Cardiff City on Sunday didn't just once again move them two points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

It edged one Reds player nearer a notable individual award.

Alisson Becker's clean sheet in the 2-0 victory in South Wales was his 19th Premier League clean sheet of a memorable debut campaign since arriving from Roma for £65million last summer.

Liverpool put at disadvantage by FA in fresh battle with Man City

That tally is more than any other goalkeeper has managed in a single top-flight campaign within the last decade.

Alisson has been an ever-present in a Reds defence that has conceded only 20 goals in 35 games, the stingiest backline in the top flight.

The Brazilian, though, hasn't sealed the Premier League Golden Gloves award just yet.

The only other goalkeeper who can catch him for the most number of clean sheets is compatriot and Manchester City shot-stopper Ederson.

The City keeper has 17 clean sheets with four games remaining. Alisson has three games left to play.

Pepe Reina is the last Liverpool goalkeeper to win the Premier League Golden Gloves award for keeping the most clean sheets in a top-flight campaign.

Reina won in each of his first three seasons at Liverpool between 2005-06 and 2007-08, and kept the most Premier League clean sheets of any Reds player in his debut campaign when earning 20 shut-outs.

The Premier League record for most clean sheets continues to be held by Petr Cech with 24 when at Chelsea in 2004-05.

With three of City's remaining four games away from home, starting at Manchester United on Wednesday, Liverpool will hope Ederson fails to catch Alisson - and City fall short in overhauling the Reds in a titanic title tussle.
