Liverpool fans worried after seeing Liver Building being painted blue

A number of Liverpool fans were left concerned and confused when they saw part of the iconic Liver Building being painted blue.

One worried red contacted the ECHO and shared a photo he had taken of the dome beneath the famous Liver Bird which had been painted a royal blue colour.

A number of other people have taken to social media to question what has been taking place.

Liverpool's most famous building was of jointly purchased by Everton's majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri in 2017.

While the club still has some operations based at Goodison - its main headquarters is now based inside the iconic waterfront building.

This - combined with the blue paint job - may have led some people (including the Liverpool fan who contacted us) to believe the building was getting an Everton-inspired rebrand.

But this turned out not to be the case.

The ECHO has made contact with those in charge of running the famous building and asked for an explanation.

It transpires that the domes on top of the building, which support the world famous bird structures, are being waterproofed - with extra layers of protective material currently being applied to protect it from the elements.

It just so happens that the base layer of this process happens to be the Royal Blue colour so famously associated with Everton.

But a spokesperson for the Royal Liver Building said that this will soon be covered in a new layer of the original light grey paint that has always been the case for those parts of the building.
