Liverpool fans won't like Ballon d'Or 'leak' but Mohamed Salah outperforms Cristiano Ronaldo

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has finished second in the race for the Ballon d'Or, according to a leak which has appeared to reveal the rankings for the prestigious award.

The Ballon d'Or rankings have been leaked on social media ahead of the ceremony for the award on Monday.

Lionel Messi is the favourite to land the gong ahead of Van Dijk and it appears that will happen according to the leak, with the Argentine set for his sixth award.

An image has been shared on Twitter stating that Messi has won the race with 446 points in comparison to Van Dijk's 382.

The voting for the award has also been cast but it's unclear at this stage whether these results are correct.

Fellow Liverpool star Mohamed Salah will land third place just ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is fourth having won the award five times previously.

Liverpool duo Sadio Mane and Alisson also made the top six, per the leak above.

Van Dijk would be unfortunate to miss out on the Ballon d'Or should the results be true, with the centre-back having starred for the Reds last season and continued his form this term.

He has been a major reason for Liverpool's shift towards winning silverware since signing from Southampton back in 2018. The Reds had a Premier League best defensive record for goals conceded last season thanks in part to Van Dijk's efforts.
