Liverpool fans will be very familiar with Wales and Denmark Euro 2020 referee

Daniel Siebert is the match official for Wales' round of 16 clash with Denmark tonight.

Wales progressed to the knockout stages of the European Championships for successive competitions after they finished above England in 2016 when the tournament was held in France.

Caretaker manager Rob Page has led Gareth Bale and co to the next phase after his side finished second in the group stage behind Italy.

Roberto Mancini's side quickly emerged as one of the tournament favourites after an impressive start to Euro 2020 after they scored six goals in two games thanks to wins over Turkey and Switzerland.

Wales on the other hand had to come from behind to draw their first match against Switzerland after Liverpool attacker Xherdan Shaqiri's corner was nodded home by Breel Embolo. But midway through the second half, Kieffer Moore headed Wales level.

A 2-0 win over Turkey followed despite Bale missing from the spot he teed up Connor Roberts in stoppage time to secure the win and almost definitely put them through to the next stage. In the final matchday against Italy, they needed to avoid heavy defeat so they wouldn't slip into third and risk not progressing as one of the third-best placed teams.

Despite Shaqiri's brace against the Turks, a Wales side that featured Harry Wilson and Neco Williams weathered the Italian storm after Ethan Ampadu was given his marching orders for a late tackle.

Denmark's emphatic 4-1 win, with the help of results elsewhere, jumped into second and progressed as group runners-up to set up the tie in Amsterdam.

Now the man in the middle has been confirmed - and Liverpool fans may remember him.

The 37-year-old was in charge of the Reds during their quest for their sixth European Cup in their third group stage match against Red Star Belgrade.

He awarded Jurgen Klopp's side two penalties during their 4-0 win over the Serbians, one of which was converted by Mohamed Salah and the other taken by Sadio Mane was saved by Milan Borjan.

The Egyptian scored two at Anfield with Roberto Firmin o and Mane contributing to the rout.

But the rest of the group stages wasn't such a walk in the park as they lost back-to-back matches against Red Star and PSG before Salah scored the only goal in the final game against Napoli which needed a crucial save from Alisson to deny Arkadiusz Milik late on to secure their spot in the knockout stages.

And we all know what happened in the games to come as Liverpool went on to topple Bayern Munich, FC Porto and Barcelona before beating Tottenham in Madrid.
