Liverpool fans unveil poignant banner on the Kop following Women's Hospital terror attack

Liverpool fans unveiled a new banner on the Kop on Saturday ahead of the club's 4-0 victory over Arsenal in the Premier League.

The banner, organised by Spion Kop 1906, was made in light of events that took place in the city last week.

A homemade bomb exploded after a taxi pulled up outside the Women's Hospital shortly before 11am on Remembrance Sunday and police declared what happened as a terrorist incident.

The banner organisers shared in a tweet: "After the last week it’s important to remember that what unites us is greater than what divides us. Unity is strength. My City, My People, My Heart."

The words displayed on the banner are from local musician Jamie Webster's song 'This Place'.

Webster also tweeted in response to the banner: "Thank you lads & lasses."

The Liverpool Region Mosque Network, Everton Football Club and Everton in the Community, LFC Foundation, and Tranmere Rovers in the Community released a joint statement on Friday in response to the terror attack.

"Following on from the disturbing and senseless incident outside our Liverpool Women’s Hospital on Sunday, it’s important we come together in solidarity, with one voice and speak out against those seeking to divide us," the statement read.

"Our message is clear: We are proud. We are one. We are Liverpool.

"We’re connected by our unshakable sense of belonging to “our Liverpool home”. We believe in standing shoulder to shoulder for what is right. Recognising and being incredibly proud of the diversity in our communities and striving for a more inclusive society is our way- it’s why we are the World in One City.

"The football clubs of Liverpool City Region embody the city’s tradition of courage, compassion and community spirit. It is the source of our unity and our strength and what’s brought us through difficult times like the pandemic as a collective. We now need to draw on this togetherness to combat hatred of all forms."

Fans expressed their support of the banner on social media and the Liverpool Region Mosque Network also shared a tweet, saying: "So proud to be scousers - we will always stand shoulder to shoulder with each other."
