Liverpool fans stunned by what Fabinho and Virgil van Dijk did in training

Liverpool may no longer have a match on Boxing Day, but they have still been hard at work in training.

The Reds took to the AXA Training Centre on Christmas Eve, as they now prepare to face Leicester City on Tuesday.

Here at the ECHO, we have already reported on some of the more eye-catching moments from Liverpool’s training session.

Andy Robertson has suffered a black eye, while James Milner, Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara were absent from training.

Given the intense nature of the Christmas schedule, it is possible that both Keita and Milner were working away from the main session as the Reds look to prioritise recovery time, while Thiago is still self isolating after a positive Covid-19 test.

Now the club have released another video which shows a more in-depth look at Liverpool’s Christmas Eve training session.

One moment involved Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho, both of whom have returned to training after self isolating from positive Covid results.

The pair were taking part in a long-range shots drill, with both firing efforts past young goalkeepers Marcelo Pitaluga and Harvey Davies.

Both Van Dijk and Fabinho posted videos of their shot drills on Twitter, with plenty of Liverpool fans in awe of their efforts.

Elsewhere in the training video, recently appointed goalkeeping coach and Brazil legend Claudio Taffarel was involved in the session.

Taffarel was leading a session with Caoimhin Kelleher, who was the hero of the Carabao Cup semi-final tie against Leicester.

The Brazil icon was offering plenty of encouragement to Kelleher during the session, which involved the young goalkeeper reacting quickly to ricocheting balls against a wall.

And it wouldn’t be a Liverpool training session without the traditional rondo that has become famous in Klopp’s tenure.

Roberto Firmino, who is renowned for often showcasing his skill in matches, did so again in the session with many flicks and tricks.

The Brazilian made his first start in nearly two months in the win over Leicester, and will be looking to return to the starting line-up in the Premier League next week.
