Liverpool fans stuck in police blockade as DJs entertain crowds in Madrid

Liverpool fans are stuck in a police blockade tonight as they attempt to get back to their hotels around the Plaza Sol in Madrid.

Superstar DJs Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike were headlining the event taking place in the square as part of UEFAs Champions League festival celebrations on Friday night as the Reds get set to take on Tottenham .

There was a lot of anticipation around the performance and thousands of fans, including many Spanish people living in Madrid, were allowed in until it got too busy.

A group of Liverpool fans told the ECHO they were trying to get into their hotel in the Plaza Sol but were told by police “they would not be allowed through the blockade until midnight”.

They were stuck with many others as all entrances to the huge square were blocked off.

A Spanish police officer in the capital also told the ECHO the blockade was put in place because the square was simply “too busy” and it seemed as if they were left with no other alternative.

It didn’t seem to dampen Reds fans spirits too much however as they were still singing and dancing long into the night.
