Liverpool fans spot potential Romain Saiss clue after Wolves transfer speculation

Some Liverpool fans are convinced Romain Saiss is set to sign for the Reds to address their centre-back shortage.

The Reds are without all three of their senior centre-backs after Joel Matip was substituted at half-time against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday, joining Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez on the sidelines.

With Fabinho also injured, Jordan Henderson and Nat Phillips finished the match at centre-back against Spurs.

After the match, Jurgen Klopp confirmed the club are actively trying to sign a defender before Monday's deadline.

Klopp said: "I don't know, but we will try. It would be funny if people thought Liverpool are just fine with the situation and don't care or don't try.

"We try, but there's nothing to say until something happens. We will see.

Klopp added: "My thoughts didn't change, my words may have done but that's probably because of my English.

"Same situation as before, we work on this - we don't always have training and press conferences. That's what we did all the time. We will see."

With Liverpool looking for a short-term replacement to ease their defensive problems, reports suggested Saiss could be a target.

The Moroccan international was then left out of Wolves' matchday squad to face Crystal Palace on Saturday, further fuelling fire on the transfer speculation.

Saiss picked up a knock in training before Wolves' FA Cup clash with Chorley and some reports claim he is still suffering with the issue despite his presence on the bench against Chelsea.

But conspiracists will no doubt point out it would not be the first time a player was suffering with an 'unspecified knock' before leaving his club.

Saiss is out of contract with Wolves in the summer and his versatility could offer Klopp some vital cover at the back.

The 30-year-old has played in central midfield, centre-back and left-back for Wolves during his career at Molineux and can also operate in a back three.
