Liverpool fans speculate the meaning behind Diogo Jota's 'alphabet' goal celebration

Diogo Jota continued his impressive start to life at Liverpool over the weekend against Leicester City.

Jota has been superb for the Reds so far this season and has made an immediate impact since his arrival from Wolves during the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old has scored four goals in seven Premier League matches, and four goals in three Champions League games so far this season.

His latest goal came during his side’s 3-0 win over Leicester at Anfield on Sunday night, as the Portugal international became the first ever Liverpool player to score in his first four appearances at Anfield.

The forward has also recently started celebrating his goals by spelling out various letters of the alphabet.

Following his goal against West Ham on October 31, Jota celebrated by putting his fingers together to form the letter "M".

Then after his goal against Leicester at the weekend, he once again made a letter with his hands during his celebrations - this time into the shape of the letter "A".

Fans have been quick to take to social media to ask what the Portugal celebration is spelling out, and below are some theories Reds fans have come up with.

However, the former Wolves man, it appears, is not following the same celebration style as Ben Chilwell, Ross Barkley and Jack Grealish.

The trio are part of a WhatsApp group consisting of Premier League stars titled "The Avengers" and have also celebrated goals by forming the letter "A" with their fingers.

"We have a little group chat called The Avengers," Leicester City star James Maddison told EA Sports. "[It has] Jack Grealish, Ross Barkley, Dele Alli and John McGinn are the footballers [in the WhatsApp group]."

Another theory to take into consideration is that Jota is spelling out 'Massarelos', his hometown in Portugal, located within the larger metropolis of Porto.

Liverpool's summer signing is yet to publicly divulge the reason his goal celebration, with the speculation only set to continue should he produce another 'alphabet' celebration if he is again on the scoresheet against Atalanta at Anfield when the Reds' Champions League group-stage campaign resumes on Wednesday night.
