Liverpool fans speak out as Jeff Bezos consortium nears deal to acquire significant stake

  • Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has joined an investment consortium, led by former QPR co-owner Amit Bhatia and including Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, which is nearing a deal to acquire a 30 per cent minority stake in Liverpool FC.
  • Supporters' group Spirit of Shankly has written to Liverpool requesting a meeting and further details regarding governance, potential board representation, and the prospective operational influence of the prospective new investors.
  • Liverpool's parent company, Fenway Sports Group, which purchased the club for £300 million in 2010 and has overseen its valuation rise to roughly £4.5 billion, remains open to external investment that could benefit the club.
  • Despite Jeff Bezos possessing an estimated personal net worth of £210 billion, Amit Bhatia is the sole member of the consortium with prior operational experience in sports management following his 18-year involvement at QPR.
  • Fenway Sports Group and Liverpool chief executive Billy Hogan confirmed that Bhatia's consortium has made an approach for a strategic minority investment, though both parties have declined to provide further public comment.
