Liverpool fans send Kalvin Phillips transfer message after England win vs Croatia at Euro 2020

Liverpool fans believe Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips would be an excellent replacement for Gini Wijnaldum after the midfielder starred for England in their Euro 2020 win against Croatia.

Gareth Southgate left Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson on the bench for the game at Wembley with Phillips partnering Declan Rice and Mason Mount in the midfield three.

Phillips dominated the game from the off playing in a slightly more advanced midfield role and helped England secure the win with an assist for Raheem Sterling's goal.

Liverpool could be in the market for a new midfielder after Wijnaldum left the club on a free transfer to join Paris Saint-Germain.

The ECHO understands the Reds are monitoring the progress of Borussia Monchengladbach star Florian Neuhaus during the European Championship but are yet to decide whether to bolster their midfield ranks following Wijnaldum's departure.

After Phillips' excellent performance for his country, plenty of Liverpool fans believe the 25-year-old should be on the club's radar during the summer transfer window.

Wijnaldum looked set to seal a move to Barcelona after weeks of negotiating with the La Liga giants but PSG swooped at the last minute and completed a swift deal for the Dutchman.

The Netherlands captain admitted he will make more money in the French capital but stressed his decision to reject Barcelona was not made because of money.

He said: "I actually negotiated with Barcelona for four weeks and we didn’t get it.

“PSG was more decisive and the project they have there really appealed to me.

“Yes, I admit I’m going to make more money in Paris, but my choice has nothing to do with the money.

“I have to say that I also thought I would go to Barca, the only club I’d been interested in for a long time."
