Liverpool fans send Dejan Lovren message after goal for Zenit

Liverpool fans praised Dejan Lovren following the defender's latest goal for Zenit.

The former Reds centre-back netted for Zenit St Petersburg against Akhmat Grozny in the Russian Premier League, heading home from a free-kick in a 2-2 draw..

With the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez out with long-term injuries for Liverpool, there has been some speculation that Jurgen Klopp may choose to try and bring in a new centre-back in January.

After Lovren's goal for Zenit, some Reds fans have suggested a short-term return for the Croatian may be the best option.

Lovren joined the Russian side in the summer for €12m after six years of service at Anfield.

Saturday's goal was his second for his new club in just 15 appearances.

Zenit currently sit second in the Russian Premier League with 31 points from 15 matches, level on points with CKSA Moscow, albeit having played a game more.

They are in a Champions League group with Borussia Dortmund, Lazio and Club Brugge but have taken just one point from their opening three matches.

Lovren recently hit out at the hectic fixture schedule this season, agreeing with Toni Kroos that authorities have not listened to fears over potential injuries to players due to playing a condensed season.

He tweeted: "People wondering why there is so many injuries, it’s simple.

" Too many games, impossible to recover, when you know that this year is a weird one (Covid).

"No proper time off, (personally I had only eight days off) no proper pre-season and then the crazy schedule!

"Toni Kroos is right and many other managers said the same thing over and over again but nobody listens.

"People who write and decide the schedule of matches should think about this topic."
