Liverpool fans have paid an emotional tribute to Gini Wijnaldum following the midfielder's apparent last game for the club.
Wijnaldum looks set to depart Anfield this summer at the end of his contract, meaning the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday was his final game for the Reds, with Barcelona stepping up their pursuit of the Dutchman.
When the ECHO asked for farewell messages for Wijnaldum, plenty of fans responded, with many hailing the 30-year-old for his underrated performances.
"Some underestimate his contribution over the last five years," DaretoDream said. "He plays a deeper role than with his national team but has been a vital cog in the midfield machine that resulted in winning the big trophies.
"Okay, he’s not a De Bruyne, a Gerrard Keane, Vieira etc, but he has complemented our style of play and the players alongside him. He was always available and contributed some vital goals.
"Good luck wherever you go Gini, wish you were staying."
Having found the net 22 times in his five years at Anfield, the Dutchman leaves plenty of memories behind at the club.
Wesley56 said: "Thank you, Gini, for all you've done for this club. I first saw you at the 2014 World Cup against Spain and I never imagined you'd ever play for us but I'm glad you did.
"You've scored many important goals for us and have left us with so many memories, you always played your heart out and remained very humble.
What is your favourite memory of Wijnaldum? Have your say in the comments.
"We as Liverpool fans will miss your bursting runs through midfield and your smile. Wishing you all the best in all you do."
Wijnaldum was one of Jurgen Klopp's first signings as Liverpool manager, joining from Newcastle United, and many fans believe the Reds would not have achieved success without him.
Looprevil1892 said: "When the gaffer started his project, you were on of the first pieces of the hugely successful jigsaw that made us English, European and world champions.
"Every successful team needs a water carrier. You were that and more.
"I thank you for the many, many memories you have left behind. A true Liverpool legend."
Perhaps the most memorable moment of Wijnaldum's Liverpool career was the brace he scored in 2019's famous 4-0 win over Barcelona - and it was something that often came up in fans' farewells.
"Thanks for the memories," Rossjer commented. "Will never forget that semi-final with Barca.
"Best of luck with the next club, they will be lucky to have you."
