Liverpool fans send Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain message to Jurgen Klopp after Mainz friendly

Liverpool fans took to social media to react to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's performance as a false 9 against Mainz 05 on Friday evening.

In the absence of Roberto Firmino, who is currently on holiday following his involvement in this summer's Copa America, Jurgen Klopp opted to use the former Arsenal man as part of his front line.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was first deployed as a false 9 in Liverpool's 'mini' friendly against Vfb Stuttgart on Tuesday evening.

However, with the 27-year-old spending much of his career on the wing, and more recently in centre midfielder for Liverpool, many fans seem to believe that he doesn't possess the desired skill set to act as Firmino's deputy this season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain struggled to get into the game, often finding himself drifting deep into a midfield role. The Englishman had the best chance of the first-half but couldn't find the back of the net with his side footed effort.

Many Liverpool fans believe he is not an alternative to Firmino which could force Jurgen Klopp into the transfer market.

Although the false 9 experiment may not have worked in the way Oxlade-Chamberlain and Klopp had in mind.

Having the former Arsenal man around from the beginning of pre-season will be a massive benefit to both parties, wherever Oxlade-Chamberlain ends up playing this season.

After joining Liverpool, Oxlade-Chamberlain stated the central midfield is his favourite position and admitted recently he still has his eye on one of the midfield roles.
