Liverpool fans say the same thing after Gini Wijnaldum goal for Holland

Liverpool fans are already rueing the club's decision to allow Gini Wijnaldum to leave on a free transfer after the midfielder netted Holland's first goal at Euro 2020.

Wijnaldum was allowed to leave the club at the end of his contract, joining French giants Paris Saint-Germain on a free following weeks of negotiations with Barcelona.

Jurgen Klopp expressed his disappointment at losing one of his most reliable players with Wijnaldum claiming his Liverpool teammates were eager to see him extend his stay at Anfield.

Wijnaldum captain's his country in Virgil van Dijk's absence before linking up with his new teammates in Paris and kicked off his Euro 2020 campaign in style with a goal against Ukraine.

Some poor goalkeeping gifted the midfielder the chance to open the scoring and the 30-year-old made no mistake, rifling the ball into the top corner.

Liverpool fans were delighted to see the fan favourite on the scoresheet but the fact he would never score in a red shirt again soon hit home.

The ECHO understands Liverpool have registered an interest in Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus but are yet to decide whether to sign another midfielder to replace the Dutchman.

Gary Neville believes he will be difficult to replace at Anfield.

He told ITV: "Liverpool have got so many great players and he very rarely gets a mention.

"But I think he'll be missed badly next season. It's going to be very difficult to replace him at Liverpool."
