Liverpool fans say the same thing about Thiago's Spain omission

Liverpool fans have been reacting to Thiago Alcantara being omitted again for Spain with the Reds man remaining on the bench for the duration of Spain's 5-3 extra time thriller against Croatia in the last 16 of the European Championship in Copenhagen on Monday evening.

Thiago, who has yet to start a game for Luis Enrique in the tournament, was overlooked as his coach opted to introduce a further six players over the duration of the contest.

The midfielder had endured a difficult start to life in the Premier League after his move from Bayern Munich last September, as a combination of Covid-19 and a knee injury kept him out until the final few weeks of 2020.

However, deployed in front of Fabinho in the final few weeks of the season, Thiago produced some scintillating displays that had Liverpool fans purring at his every touch.

Given the form he produced at the tail end of the season, it's become even more confusing as to why Enrique has decided to overlook the two-time Champions League winner.

Given how frantic Spain allowed the contest to get, as Croatia scored two goals in the final minutes to send the game to extra time, it's a surprise that Thiago wasn't introduced.

As we've seen with Liverpool this season he is able to dictate the play and pace of the other 21 players on the pitch due to his sheer quality on the ball.

With Enrique seemingly set on his midfield trio of Pedri, Sergio Busquets and Koke, it seems unlikely that Thiago will be able to break into the managers plans this late in the tournament.

However, it might not be something that will upset the fans of Liverpool too much as they know all too well about the pain of seeing their players getting injured on international duty.
