Liverpool fans say the same thing about Gary Neville commentary in Manchester United clash

Liverpool fans have slated Gary Neville for his comments in regards to Harry Maguire being injured for Manchester United.

The Reds went into the clash at Old Trafford missing their three main centre-backs in Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.

Jurgen Klopp 's defensive trio are all absent with season-ending injuries and the Liverpool boss has been forced to experiment various partnerships at the heart of defence throughout this campaign.

Neville, when speaking about his former club United, mentioned about the lack of Maguire's presence and how it was affected the hosts at Old Trafford.

The United captain limped off in the weekend's win against Aston Villa with ankle ligament damage.

"I played with players at Manchester United, individual players like Roy Keane in the studio, if they don't play, it unnerves the whole team," Neville told Sky Sports.

"The lack of Harry Maguire's presence in that defence is clear for all to see. People question 'how good is Harry Maguire', you only see it when he is not playing.

"I think tonight they have a very frantic defence. It's a real problem, it unnerves you when you lose a steadying presence and influence.

"I know Bruno Fernandes has been sensational at Manchester United but I think he (Maguire) is the one player where the drop in depth is so big. He's trying to urge them on from the stands, which is a difficult thing to do."

Liverpool fans feel somewhat aggrieved by this given their injury woes this season.

The aforementioned Van Dijk, who hasn't played since suffering a serious knee injury against Everton back in October, confirmed that he was on course to be ready for the start of pre-season.

Speaking to the club's official website, the Dutchman said: "As you say, seven months ago I got injured and it’s been a very, very long road. I had to take it step by step, as I have done.

"Things have been going well, I’ve not had a real setback or anything, I’ve just progressed nicely. In this latest stage for myself, I have come to a decision that I had to make: would I be involved in the Euros, yes or no?

"With everything that is going on, I feel physically it is the right decision that I’ve decided not to go to the Euros and to go into my last phase of rehab during the off-season.

"So, the full focus will be on pre-season with the club and that’s a realistic goal, so I am looking forward to that."
