Liverpool fans ready for Man City showdown after 'mentality giants' strike again at Aston Villa

Liverpool ensured that they will take a six-point advantage into next Sunday’s mouthwatering top-of-the-table clash with Manchester City after a late 2-1 win against Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Having trailed since the 21st minute, Liverpool looked on course for a shock first defeat of the campaign until left-back Andrew Robertson notched an 87th-minute equaliser for the Reds.

Despite the Scots' equaliser which would maintain Liverpool's unbeaten start to the season alive, it would mean City would cut the gap to four points, with Pep Guardiola’s side having beaten Southampton 2-1 .

But in the fourth minute of five added on, Sadio Mane found the back of the net to spark pandemonium in the away end.

The late antics of Jurgen Klopp’s team means that Liverpool will open up a nine-point gap on City if they get the better of the defending champions at Anfield next Sunday.

With next Sunday’s clash now having been teed up as must-win for City, Liverpool fans are looking forward to the game with great excitement, but also a sense of nerves due to the potential outcomes.

The never-say-die attitude displayed in the Midlands, the stuff champions are made of, has gone a long way in building a positive atmosphere ahead of Sunday's huge clash.
