Liverpool fans react to Trent Alexander-Arnold taking right-back place from Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been named in Gareth Southgate's 33-man provisional squad for the Euros this summer.

Southgate will cut the list further come June 1 when he finalises his 26-man squad for the finals.

The Liverpool full-back was controversially dropped from the squad for England's World Cup qualifiers in March after a series of underwhelming showings for his club.

Since then Alexander-Arnold helped Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool salvage their season to finish third in the Premier League and secure Champions League football next year.

In his final nine league appearances for The Reds the full-back notched a goal and made nine assists, alongside four clean sheets, in a remarkable return to form.

The 22-year-old's performances were noticed by Southgate as his name returned to the provisional England squad announced today.

Alexander-Arnold is one of four right-backs included in the 33-man list with Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier and Reece James also getting the nod.

There's still no senior call-up for Aaron Wan-Bissaka however, despite his consistent season at Manchester United.

The omission may push the Red Devils defender to finally switch his nationality and represent the DR Congo national side, having turned out for them at under-20 level.

Fans took to Twitter following the announcement of Alexander-Arnold's inclusion and Wan-Bissaka's exclusion to share their thoughts.

One Liverpool fan said: "Let’s hope Southgate hasn’t called up Trent to send him home before the Euros. He deserves better."

Many shared short messages of congratulations for their defender.

Replies saying "Well deserved Trent, happy for you", "Proud of my boys!" and "as it should be" were all left by fans.

On the whole, England fans online seemed happy to have the Liverpool full-back in the side once again.

Many, however, questioned the inclusion of Walker, Trippier and James in that role over Manchester United's Wan-Bissaka.

One wrote: "Taking TAA makes sense when you are playing 3 at the back but Reece James over AWB, seriously?"

Another said: "Not selecting AWB could be a huge minus point for England this time, specially against bigger teams. I do rate TAA, but he will be exposed in Southgate's system. AWB would have been more solid against stronger teams for sure."

Someone else Tweeted: "It’s outrageous that AWB isn’t even considered it seems. No bias, as I’d put TAA and Walker ahead of him right now but we could *really* do with AWB against teams with the likes of Sane, Mbappe etc - he wouldn’t start every game but he’s by far the best defensive option."

Everton's Ben Godfrey, West Ham's Jesse Lingard and Brighton's Ben White were also included in Southgate's 33-man list.

In a week's time seven further names will be cut meaning nothing is gauranteed for the names announced today.

England will face Austria and Romania on Wednesday June 2 and Saturday June 6 in friendly fixtrures ahead of this summer's Euros.

Southgate's men will then kick off their Euros campaign against Croatia in the Group Stage on Sunday June 13.
