Liverpool fans question TV pundit's view on Alisson and Lionel Messi free-kick goal for Barcelona

Liverpool fans have questioned a TV pundit's comments following the Reds 3-0 defeat to Barcelona.

Luis Suarez scored his side's first goal last night after an assist from Jordi Alba. This was followed by a tap in second goal from Lionel Messi in the 75th minute.

A free-kick was then awarded to Barcelona after Fabinho was booked for a tackle on Messi towards the end of the match.

Despite the 30-yard distance, Messi curled a long range shot perfectly into the back of the net.

On commentary, ex-Reds star Steve McManaman said: "[Messi's] first goal was easy. His second was absolutely sublime.

"How it's gone in from 35 yards I will never know. But it has done.

"It's gone right in the top corner. It was an amazing free-kick, it's gone around the wall and back in.

"I don’t like to see free-kicks go in from 30, 35 yards."

His comments angered some Reds fans, who believed the former Liverpool midfielder was blaming goalkeeper Alisson for conceding the late goal.

One wrote: "Steve McManaman blamed the keeper. FFS, if only we’d signed a diving octopus with extendable tentacles instead of Alisson."

Rich Lee said: "I wanted to put out a tweet about Alisson getting criticised for Messi’s free kick.

"I’ve been advised that if I did that I would need to be ‘calm and collected’ in my thoughts on the punditry and not call McManaman anything derogatory.

"So I’ve decided not to comment."

Another fan said: "Steve McManaman has the cheek to question the goalkeeper for that world class free kick. Behave."

And another tweeted: "Is Steve McManaman actually trying to blame Alisson for letting that free kick in?", followed by a cry-laughter emoji.
